"Bluegrass Beatles", Clean Windows, the President and God...

OK, a "random-type" post while listening to the President's press conference...

First of all, "Bluegrass Beatles", because I have had this picture saved for quite awhile now with no place to use it...

...until Jim found this You Tube video the other day. {AS ALWAYS, PAUSE MY PLAYLIST OVER ON THE RIGHT FIRST}

Now for the "clean windows" part of the post:

The windows over our kitchen sink face the west and as I was doing dishes last night, I remarked how dirty they were. When I came home from work tonight, imagine my JOY AND RAPTURE at finding Jim had spent the day cleaning almost ALL our windows! I almost burst into tears...it was such an unexpected delight! Thank you, Honey!!!

As far as President Obama's press conference...

Sorry...it is just that I put my confidence in NO MAN, or governmental system. Democrat or Republican. As you all know, I was a Ron Paul supporter in the last election. Turns out, if I were living in Missouri, that would be just ONE of the MANY REASONS that I would be considered part of a modern militia group.

Just keep spending, Washington. The mint can keep printing them out (even though there is nothing there to back up all those bucks) as fast as you can give them away. Relax. Next week's G20 summit will bring us one step closer to our 'global economy' that you all want in place. And by the way, you all think you are so slick about it. How many of you know it has been in the works since before God breathed his Spirit into the men who penned the Bible? {Hey, I just heard Barack deny a "global currency". LOL}

From what I heard tonight, I have to ask, is the American view on Israel changing???

Oh, and by the way Mr. President...don't be trying to use the violence on the Mexican border as a reason to try and take our guns away from us, OK?

Call me jaded, but I just don't think the press conference was worth pre-empting American Idol. Same old, same old, IMHO...

Night, all...

1/2 price day at Goodwill...AKA...it doesn't get any better than this!

DISCLAIMER...Grab a cup of coffee, sit back and relax. This is gonna take a little while...at least it took me a long time to post it...there HAS to be an easier way!)

Periodically, some of the blogs I follow show off their really cool finds at Goodwill and thrift stores across the country. Since Jim and I had a good day at Goodwill, I thought I would follow suit...

Let's see...where to begin??? {NOTE: None of this stuff has been washed and/or cleaned up yet. Also, to get a better look at anything, just double click on any picture.}

This Christmas tree mosaic candle holder was purchased for 50 cents:

This will go nicely with our collection:

This vase was purchased today for $2.50:

More than I would liked to have paid, but I REALLY NEEDED it (ladies, you know how that goes, right?) to go with these other two:

Next was a cute little fabric finished box to hold my CDs at work (or something else I just haven't thought of yet) for 50 cents:

4 brand new (I took them out of the packaging before I thought about it) kitchen table placemats for 25 cents each to go in our "apple themed" kitchen:

A large hardbacked book about houseplants for 79 cents:

An unopened puzzle of a painting by Charles Wysocki for next winter, purchased for 50 cents:

I don't know if I am up to the challenge...

3 VHS tapes for $1.00 each...this first one I already own, but since it is probably my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE, I figured why not buy another copy just in case:

This one I have never seen but it is from "Feature Films for Families". We had a membership to that when Lauren was little and she enjoyed their movies.

This one I bought because I like it and it has Hugh Grant in it. 'Nuff said! LOL

You all still with me? OK, let's forge ahead. To do that I'll probably need a pair of boots. Now before you all start freaking out, these boots have never been worn...still have the price tag on...and I bought them to walk Scooby this coming winter.

I paid 2 bucks for them...

Next up, a really great CINCINNATI BENGALS shirt for $1.50!

The bigger of these 2 bowls was $1.00 and the smaller one was 50 cents. Jim says they should clean up very nicely with Tarnex...

3 picture frames for 50 cents each (cause you can never have enough picture frames in your home!):

and these 3 old saucers/candy dishes/not really sure what they are for 50 cents each:

Since that was all the damage Jim and I could do at Goodwill's "Everything 1/2 off sale" today, we went on over to the Salvation Army Thrift Store where we found...

a flower vase with a vine etched in the glass for 75 cents (remember, it isn't washed yet):

an old CUTE doggie planter for 99 cents (to go with my others, but I forgot to take a picture of them)

an little old German bowl of some sort for $2.00:

Jim purchased these for 19 cents each for his tackle box (BIG spender! he he):

Now for the "pièce de résistance" (I googled how to spell it LOL) A piece of old sheet music for 75 cents...check this out (I would probably double click on this one!):

We also went to Trinity Christian Bookstore where I purchased these books. They say they are $5.00 each, but we got them ALL for $5.00.

Remember the 3 picture frames I purchased and I said you can't ever have enough of them? Well, to prove that point, look at these random shots of my home...

These pictures...along with LOTS of others I could post, combined with the fact that I LOVE to shop at Goodwill and have for years, makes me think that THIS next picture should be the topic of a soon coming blog post for me. Do you all agree????

Hope you enjoyed this little "shopping trip" with me. Have a great 'what's left' of the weekend...

American Idol weekly update...AKA Here are your TOP TEN!

...the AI summer tour cast is set!

First of all, this talented little 21 year old from Memphis, TN DID NOT MAKE IT! She will be going home to her fiance and little daughter, Ryan Elizabeth.

Alexis Grace, I SURE wish YOU were going on the tour instead of this girl:

22 year old Megan Joy (she dropped her last name of Corkrey since it is her ex-husband's name) from Sandy, UT. Nice tattoo, but musical ability...not so much IMHO. She is a single mother of a little boy named Ryder and apparently, she started a group that helps single parents called "Send Out Cards".

There are only 3 girls in the top 10 this year. The other two females in the group will be 16 year old Allison Iraheta from LA, California. According to Wikipedia, "In 2006, Iraheta won the Telemundo reality show, Quinceañera. The prize was a reward of USD 50,000 and a recording contract":

and 23 year old Lil Rounds, also from Memphis, TN. She is married with 3 children and again, according to Wikipedia, "Before she entered the competition, a tornado ripped through Memphis on February 5, 2008, severely damaging her home and forcing her and her family to live in a hotel. Her grandfather once worked with the music legend B.B. King."

I REALLY like both Allison and Lil's singing styles!

Heading over to "the boys" section, we will start with a 28 year old praise and worship leader from Milwaukee, WI...Danny Gokey. You met him last week here on my blog...so far, he is my fave. His story is a sad one. His wife, Sophia, died a month before he auditioned for AI. You can read about it here.

Since it is getting late and tomorrow is a work day (as well as THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING!)...

...I will introduce you to Adam, Scott, Anoop, Kris, Matt and Michael later on.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Or, in this case, "THE TOP O' THE EVENING TO YOU!"

(A little late, but better late than never, right?)

As I was thinking about what to post for St. Paddy's Day, once again a favorite movie comes to mind. "The Quiet Man" is yet another one of my all time favorites (hey, being an only child in the middle of nowhere in the 50's and 60's, I saw A LOT of movies and read A LOT of comic books, ok?)

Here is the plot, as posted in Wikipedia:

Sean Thornton (John Wayne), an Irish-American from Pittsburgh, returns to Ireland to reclaim his family's farm in Innisfree. He meets and falls in love with the fiery Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara), the spinster sister of the bullying, loud-mouthed landowner "Red" Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen). Danaher, angry that Sean outbid him for the land adjacent to his property, initially refuses to sanction the marriage until several town locals, including the parish priest, conspire to trick him into believing that the wealthy Widow Tillane wants to marry him, but only if Mary Kate is no longer living in the house. After learning the truth on Sean and Mary Kate's wedding day, an enraged Will refuses to give his sister her full dowry.

Sean, unschooled in Irish customs, cares nothing about the dowry, but Mary Kate is obsessed with obtaining it, the dowry representing her independence, identity, and pride. Angered and shamed by Sean's refusal to confront her brother and demand what is legally hers, she brands him a coward, and, despite living together, they are estranged as husband and wife. The truth about Sean, however, is known only to one other person in the village, the Church of Ireland minister "Snuffy" Playfair (Arthur Shields). Sean is a former boxer in the United States, a heavy weight champion known as "Trooper Thorn." After accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, Sean hung up his gloves, vowing never to fight again.

Later, in an attempt to force Sean to confront Red, Mary Kate leaves him and boards a train departing the village, although she continually looks around to see if he is coming after her. Infuriated, Sean arrives and drags her off the train, and, followed by the townspeople, forces her to walk the five miles to Red's farm. Sean demands that Red hand over her dowry. Red finally relents and gives him the cash, but to his horror, Mary Kate and Sean throw it into a furnace, showing that Mary Kate never cared about the money, but only that Sean stand up for his wife. Sean and Will slug it out through the village, stop for a drink, brawl again, then become best friends. Sean regains Mary Kate's love and respect, Red and the Widow Tillane begin courting, and all is well, at least in Innisfree.

This movie has it all...great acting, beautiful scenery, romance, comedy and a CLASSIC fight scene. If you have never seen it, I wholeheartedly recommend it! Here is the trailer...it REALLY doesn't do it justice!...{PAUSE MY PLAYLIST OVER ON THE RIGHT FIRST!}

"The Quiet Man" was even featured in "E.T.", but I couldn't find the clip. Remember when ET gets drunk and Elliott feels the effect at school? E.T. is watching "The Quiet Man" when John Wayne grabs Maureen O'Hara lays a big kiss on her? Elliott does the same thing to his "crush" at school. Remember?

Finally, in honor of St. Paddy's Day, I want to mention that my Senior Pastor and our Youth Pastor from our church are in Ireland this week! You can read about their travels here and here

Here are some photos: first of all, "The Quiet Man Bridge"

Will Danaher's house:

How about Blarney Castle:

Apparently you have to lean over backward while kissing the "Blarney Stone"...

more beautiful views:

AHHHHH...maybe someday...

Gotta go. Lauren just walked in the door! She is home for a couple days! WHOOO HOOOO!!!!
