Sweetest Day 2008

First of all, let me just say that I believe 'Sweetest Day' is just another day for Hallmark to make a lot of money. That aside, it is always nice to be remembered on these 'non-holidays', don't ya think?

Case in point. Today is Sweetest Day. Didn't remember it...didn't really care. But how can I not be touched when my DH (that is 'Darling Husband' in blogland language) remembered me today?

Jim came back from running errands this morning and handed me this:

He says to me, "I got you something else, Honey." (The "honey" part I think I just imagined, but hey! It's MY blog and MY selective memory...LOL)

Political humor...AKA is anybody laughing?

As we enter into the home stretch of the presidental election, here are some political 'toons that MIGHT give us reason to grin. (Last night's final debate sure gave us cause to yawn...)



As you all know, I am voting (in protest of the failed "2 party system" in this country) for this man:



(Hey, if I didn't FIRMLY believe that God is in ultimate control of all the goings on down here, I wouldn't be "wasting" my one and only chance to vote AGAINST Obama. However, in this case, the lesser of 2 evils is still evil and so, I am doing my bit to try and change the "gubment"! It's a carry over from the seventies, what can I say?)

It's a marvelous night for a moondance...(AKA apologies to Van Morrison)

Coming home from my Endtime Bible Prophecy class this evening, I noticed the wonderful full moon. (Actually, it won't be "full" until 4:02 pm tomorrow.) I knew the "Harvest Moon" is September's moon, so I consulted the internet to find the name of this moon. October's full moon is called, "Hunter's Moon", for this reason:

"Full moon names were bestowed by the Native Americans of what is now the northern and eastern United States. A few hundred years ago, those tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred.

Oct. 14, 2008 4:02 p.m. EDT — Full Hunters' Moon. With the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the fields have been reaped, hunters can ride over the stubble, and can more easily see the fox, along with other animals, which have come out to glean and can be caught for a thanksgiving banquet after the harvest." {space.com} (I must say, it seemed a little warm for the October "Hunter's Moon", but you get my drift...)



Musing on the moon made me think about the wonderful Moonflower that will soon be silenced by the frost.



"Ipomoea alba, otherwise known as Moonflowers are so called because they bloom in the evening. They have large 4 to 6 inch fragrant, white or pink flowers on twining vines. The flowers open quickly in the evening and last through the night, remaining open until touched by the morning Sun.

Moonflowers grow to a height of about 15 feet. The leaves are rather large which allows the plant to be used as an annual in a northern garden. Propagation is usually by seed. This storm, however, may take us on quite a different kind of ride...right into the arms of a socialistic government. Look around. It is happening all over the world as we speak. Governments basically taking control of worldwide banking systems. (Hmmm...can anyone say "Global Currency"?)

I believe Thomas Jefferson might have been on to something:

Well, Hope didn't stick around very long. As some guy on the Bengals forum pointed out, we have "flashes of brillance (a perfectly executed onside kick) followed by waves of incompetence". Final score Cowboys 31 - Bengals 22.

This man gets my protest vote. The "2 party system" is broken, IMHO. (but THAT'S another post topic...)



That being said, I believe SP held her own tonight, (which is probably why a lot of people watched...to see if she would collapse under pressure.)
